Billy Idol - In Super Overdrive Live - Eagle Vision/Eagle Rock

DVD Review By Rob "Bubbs" Harris

Say what you want about Billy Idol, but I like him. As a child of the 80's, it's hard for me not to recognize what an impact he made on music at the time. Now, more than twenty some years later, he still has the stuff. In Super Overdrive Live is a spectacular concert dvd of a killer show at Chicago's Congress Theatre that shows why Billy has remained one of the greatest performers of our time. Performing both old and new songs, Idol comes out full force and is drenched in sweat before the first song is even over. Maybe that has something to do with the heat of the venue in July, but I think it's just because this guy gets so fired up when he hit's the stage that it's hard not to sweat. With probably the best overall production on a dvd I have seen all year, this one is both a spectacle for the eyes as well as the ears. Crystal clear definition and impeccable sound make you feel almost as if you were right there in the front row. The collaboration between Billy and guitarist Steve Stevens is always magic, while Brian Tichy, Stephen McGrath and keyboard legend Derek Sherinian round out the all-star lineup. All the platters that matter are offered up as a gift to those who like their pop with a little bit of an attitude. Rock'N'Roll fans need not sleep on this release.
