Lullacry are going to be the next Finnish metal sensations and you read that
here first. On a recent trek in America, I got the chance to sit down with
Tanja, who is the front woman for the band to talk about the new EP Fire Within
and their first ever tour of America. She was a great interview and a very cool
person to talk to. This band will be huge, mark those words.

Jeffrey Easton interviewing Tanja of Lullacry!
Jeff: So, how is the tour going?
Tanja: I think everything has been wonderful for us and the audience has been
great.
Jeff: So, Nightwish’s audience has been good to you?
Tanja: Yes, it is a little difficult for the opening act sometimes but it has
been into us.
Jeff: Well, live you and your guys have a great energy on stage and you really
connect with the crowd.
Tanja: I think we do have great energy as you said earlier and that is a good
thing. Our band is really tight and that helps when you are on stage. It also
helps that we have great, heavy songs that are catchy.
Jeff: Well, it also helps that you are one of the few bands that have a female
front person and are actually great. How did you get this tour?
Tanja: We had some support from our label and we had money from our recent gigs
and that helped get this gig.
Jeff: Well, tell us about the EP that is out now, Fire Within.
Tanja: Well, Fire Within, the song, is really catchy, heavy and has a great
chorus. I think it is the heaviest song on the EP. We also have a cover of
W.A.S.P.’s Love Machine, which is heavy as well. We also have three other
songs which are a little lighter compared to the other two.
Jeff: Why did you decide to redo Crucify My Heart and Be My God the way you did?
Tanja: I think the main reason was that we wanted to a different kind of version
of them, just to do something different. We want people to know we can do
something different with our songs.
Jeff The piano version of Crucify My Heart is really great.
Tanja: That is so lovely, it really gives you goose bumps too.
Jeff: Why did you decide to cover the W.A.S.P. song?
Tanja: Lullacry have done this song in gigs for a long time so it was easy for
us to do this for the EP.
Jeff: I am a big W.A.S.P. fan but I have to say you make the song work better
than Blackie can. (laughter)
Tanja: Well, I think it is good that a woman can pull this song off just like a
man can.
Jeff: And all you had to do is change one word.
Tanja: Yeah, the first word. (Laughter) When we first did it I wanted to change
the word to give it a different mood.
Jeff: And it is not a complete cover, it really sounds like your own song
because it is so different.
Tanja: We had our own arrangements for the song.
Jeff: The entire EP is very good, I hope it sells.
Tanja: Yes, there is a good variation on it, there is heavy and there is lighter
stuff.
Jeff: What made you decide to do and EP right now?
Tanja: It has been 20 months sense we release Crucify My Heart so we thought we
would put an EP out to tide fans over until the next CD comes out and we also
got this tour as well so we wanted something out for the fans. I think it is
good that you can offer something new and something different to the fans. Now
we are concentrating on a new CD that we want out by January or February 2005.

Jeff: Will the new songs from this EP be on the next full length?
Tanja: We have done about 20 songs but is narrowed down 10 12 or 13 for the new
CD. We might take Fire Within from the EP but we just might make all of them new
songs. We will have to see then.
Jeff: Or you can just make this an exclusive item and leave the tracks alone.
Tanja: We will probably do that.
Jeff: For those who have not discovered the last CD, Crucify My Heart, tell them
about it.
Tanja: That is a very good album and it was my first CD with them. I was
preassured at first because I joined right before they started recording but now
I am at more at ease, it has a special meaning for me though and it always will.
It is still a great album with great vocals but the next one will be much
better.
Jeff: Well, I love the album, the opening track Alright Tonight is a great
opening song!
Tanja: Yes, it has great words, a lot of power and a very catchy melody. It also
makes you want to be in your car drive very fast.
Jeff: What’s on tap after this tour is over?
Tanja: We are taking a week off for vacation and then we are going to start on
our new record.
Jeff: Is it in the same direction as Crucify My Heart?
Tanja: It is much heavier with more riffs but it is the same basic style of
Crucify My Heart. All of the classic metal songs have great riffs to them and
that is what we want.
Jeff: Well, I thank you for your time!
Tanja: Thank you.
