Metal Exiles Started as a message board in 2001 when Metal Edge ceased to exist as a site and message board. Once Gerri Miller was fired, the Metal Edge MB went wild and it was over with. Theresa “TT” Farr and Traci Simon conjured up Metal Exiles as a message board and it was an instant hit with the metal community. The message board soon became a real website that featured news, reviews, and interviews. Over the years, it has grown into a major metal site featuring interviews with artists as big as Geezer Butler and Glenn Tipton as well as others being featured along with smaller and/or local acts. Many of our readers may notice some of their favorite interviews missing and in the future they will be added back to the new site. Now with a slight website name change and a new look Metal Exiles is set to become the biggest Metal Site and will deliver the best features with the biggest and best metal and hard rock acts.

We have been on vacation this past month having a child and so therefore there have not been any updates. Sorry!

Meshuggah Debut Video On MySpace Metal

It’s here, and it doesn’t disappoint! After releasing a teaser trailer last week, the Swedish calculatorcore masterminds in Meshuggah have unveiled the video for “Bleed” -- in all of its gory, uber-frightening glory. As previously reported, the clip was produced by Ian McFarland and Killswitch Productions. Directed, written and edited by McFarland and Mike Pecci, “Bleed” boasts a fittingly-cinematic horror flick tone, and some genuine scares – seriously, have you looked at that picture up there?

Before joining Def Leppard, London born Phil Collen played in Girl, who were one of the great unsung UK rock acts of the early 80’s (singer Phil Lewis would later front LA Guns – who were at the vanguard of the LA sleaze rock scene that eventually produced Guns N Roses). While Phil went on to join Def Leppard he maintained a strong friendship with Simon Laffy, Girl’s bassist. Reconnecting in 2004, and joined by Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook, Man Raze was born. Locomotive Records To Release Six-Track E.P., So Many Reasons, May 20, And New Full-Length Studio Album, Delusions Of Grandeur, June 24

New York, NY (May 9, 2008)—Former Savatage vocalist Zak Stevens hasn’t exactly been sitting around chilling of late. A new Circle II Circle E.P., the six-track So Many Reasons, will see the light of day on May 20 via Locomotive Records. Thirty-six days later, on June 24, Locomotive will release the fourth all-new CIIC studio album, Delusions Of Grandeur.

The band—Singer/Songwriter Zak Stevens, Bassist Paul Michael Stewart, Guitarist Andy Lee, Guitarist Evan Christopher and drummer Robert T. Drennan—went for a “more edgy, rougher, but no less grand” style than that found on its last album, 2006’s Burden Of Truth. The first single is “So Many Reasons.”

Fans of the band who do not want to wait until June 24 for new CIIC music can content themselves on May 20 with the E.P. So Many Reasons starts with its title track, continues with an edited version of “Every Last Thing,” before hitting its stride with “Darkness Rising,” the album version of “Every Last Thing” and a video for “Evermore.”

Stevens joined Savatage in the early ‘90s for Edge Of Thorns and contributed mightily to the Florida band’s Dead Winter Dead, Handful Of Rain and The Wake Of Megellan albums. Shortly before the Poets & Madmen album in 2001, Stevens left under amicable circumstances to form Circle II Circle and spend more time with his family. GLOBAL WARNING LANDS MAY 6 BY JON OLIVA’S PAIN!

New York, NY (May 5, 2008)—Locomotive Records will unleash an important Global Warning by Jon Oliva’s Pain on May 6.

Oliva—singer/songwriter/guitarist/bassist/drummer/keyboardist—contents himself by just singing and adding some keyboard flourishes on this, the band’s third album. The band—drummer Christopher Kinder, bassist Kevin Rothney, guitarist Matt LaPorte and keyboardist John Zahner—smokes through 13 toxic cuts of metallic Hard Rock, sure to please fans of Doctor Butcher, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Circle II Circle, Jon Oliva’s Pain and Savatage (the bands Oliva’s played in during the course of his legendary career).

He’s been warming down in Florida writing this material and fine-tuning it, overcoming an obstacle that would have withered mere mortals: the death of engineer/co-producer Greg “Super G” Marchak. Oliva, who had already survived the 1993 death of his guitarist brother Criss (with whom he formed Savatage) marched on, teaming up with engineers Tom and Jim Morris from Morrisound Studios in Tampa.

As with the last album, Maniacal Renderings, several of the new songs are from tapes that Jon’s wife found in an old shoebox. “The new album is like a buffet,” says Jon. “There will be something for everyone.”

“No More Saturday Nights” was originally supposed to be a Savatage song. Now, it’s a bonus track for the limited edition of this CD.

Much of the material hearkens back to his Gutter Ballet and Streets eras. From the distorted vocals of “Master” to the complexity of the breathtaking “Firefly,” Oliva, on Global Warning, has fashioned a Metal gem, one you would only expect from the man known as “The Mountain King” himself!

Plans To Spread The Word On January 29

New York, NY (December 10, 2007)—Locomotive Records will spread the gospel of one of the great Euro metal bands, Primal Fear, on January 29 when the label will release the band’s New Religion.

Now with lead vocalist Ralf Scheepers (ex-Gamma Ray, who started the band with Sinner in 1997), guitarists Stefan Leibing and Henny Wolter and drummer Randy Black, Primal Fear has enjoyed a successful and illustrious seven-album Power Metal career. New Religion, recorded in Germany at the House Of Music with engineer/co-producer Charlie Bauerfeind (Blind Guardian, Saxon, Hammerfall) and producer/bassist/vocalist Mat Sinner, was mixed in Belgium at Galaxy Studio by Ron Prent (Rammstein, Iron Maiden, Manowar).

Producer/guitarist Magnus Karlsson is also on hand to lend two stunning electric guitar solos. Epica vocalist Simone Simons was also invited to the sessions to sing the first duet in Primal Fear history.

Primal Fear, having completed an October stateside tour, and a November European tour, is now in Japan. 2008 will see Primal Fear spread all over the U.S. and South America.

For a decade, award winning singer/songwriter Candice Night, legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, and their fellow band of minstrels, have crafted an enchanting folk/rock sound with Renaissance overtones that has earned them the devotion of fans around the globe. Over the course of five internationally charting studio albums, several live and compilation releases, numerous awards and many sold-out tours around the planet, they have truly perfected their signature blend of music.

Following his global success as Deep Purple and Rainbow’s guitarist and main composer, Ritchie Blackmore changed his musical form of expression in the mid-‘90s to co-found Blackmore’s Night with instrumentalist/lyricist/lead vocalist Candice Night.

Blackmore’s Night has fascinated its steadily growing fan community since 1997 with wonderful vocal melodies and evocative guitar parts. Its debut album, Shadow Of The Moon, stayed on the German charts for 17 weeks and went gold in Japan. The band toured churches, opera houses, theatres and castles all over the world.

1999’s Under A Violet Moon entered high in the European and Japanese Billboard charts, being voted “Best Vocal Album Of The Year” in the USA by National Public Radio. 2001’s Fires At Midnight went to #9 in Germany and #20 in Japan. Past Times With Good Company (2002), the first live album, and Ghost Of A Rose (2003), preceded Beyond The Sunset – The Romantic Collection (2004), a retrospective of beautiful ballads from the early years, again voted “Best Vocal Album Of The Year” in the USA by NPR. CHAVIS RECORDS recording artist AMERICAN ANGEL have landed the #1 position on Billboard's Heatseeker (Northeast) chart with the bands latest release VANITY.

IRON MAIDEN announce a one off show at the Los Angeles Forum on Tuesday February 19th as part of the first leg of the ‘SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR 2008’. The band will fly in especially for this one show from Tokyo two days before and depart for Mexico the day after on a specially commissioned and customized Boeing 757, flown by Astraeus Airline Captain and Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The 757, decked out in Maiden and Eddie artwork, will carry the band, road crew and other personnel of around 70 people plus over 12 tons of equipment. This first leg of the ‘SOMEWHERE BACK IN TIME WORLD TOUR’ opens in Mumbai India on February 1st, and continues through Australia and Japan before arriving in LA. The entourage then fly to Mexico and into Latin America for the band’s first ever concerts in Costa Rica and Columbia, and on to Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rica and New York, before finishing in Toronto, Canada, on March 16th. Over the 45 day period it is anticipated that Maiden will play to well over 400,000 fans in 21 cities in 10 countries, flying close to 50,000 miles in the specially refitted plane (full schedule below). Comments Bruce Dickinson, “I have been flying commercial passenger jets for Astraeus Airlines for a few years now and we are commissioning an Astraeus Boeing 757. It will go in for overhaul, painting and conversion in November which will then give us time to ensure we have all the necessary safety documentation, especially with regard to fire safety. It also means it could possibly be flying commercial air routes decked out in Maiden colours for a couple of months before we start! “Looking at the list of places we would like to play we have always had problems joining up the dots. HISTORY BEHIND THE POWERSLAVE TOUR AND LIVE AFTER DEATH VIDEO The band recorded and released their first five studio albums (Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind and Powerslave) one year after the next (1980 – 1984) and toured the world extensively with each one. The ‘Powerslave’ Tour of 1984-5 also included choice songs from the first four albums, and was actually titled the ‘World Slavery Tour’. It opened in Warsaw on Aug 9 1984, marking the first time a major band from the West had played large arenas in Poland at a time when the country was still very much “Behind the Iron Curtain”. On top of this Maiden took with them their full spectacular arena show, again a first as no one had ever done that before in Poland. The tour continued through 193 concerts in 21 countries, including an incredible 112 arena shows in the USA and Canada, in both of which the album went Platinum, playing to over one and a quarter million fans in North America alone. The tour finally came to a (weary!!) end on July 5 1985 at Irvine Meadows (now Verizon) Amphitheatre just South of Los Angeles, marking the longest and most gruelling tour the band have ever attempted. The band and the lavish Egyptian stage production generated stunning reviews and arenas around the planet were sold out. March 14, 15, 16, 17 saw the band play 4 sold out consecutive nights at LA’s 13,200 capacity Long Beach Arena. Tickets went on sale at 10 am on a Saturday morning with fans waiting overnight for the box office to open. When the first show sold out almost immediately and the second was being added some fans got rather restive as they felt they may not get tickets and this led to the LAPD being called in and LA press reporting riots! Tickets continued to sell and shows added until after about 10 days the band called a halt at a record breaking 4 sold out shows - a record which still stands to this day. It was during the 2nd and 3rd nights here that the band recorded and filmed, in 35mm, what was to become the legendary LIVE AFTER DEATH album and concert video, featuring tracks from their first five albums. This was one of the first ever full concert videos with a worldwide release and topped the new video charts everywhere. It was these concerts that also inspired the idea for the birth of one of the first specialist Metal Radio Station in America, KNAC, and certainly the most successful. The originators could not believe that a band could sell over 50,000 tickets in LA with no radio support EVER in the marketplace and wisely reckoned that there must be a massive underground market for this band and this music and went on to start a unique station which has had great success ever since and became synonymous with Metal in the USA. Says KNAC founder Long Paul ; “The Iron Maiden shows were presented by KLOS FM, now a classic rock format, and they were not playing the band, nor was any commercial radio in the market at the time. KNAC at that point was an alternative format radio station, the programmers looked at string of sold out dates at Long Beach and thus was the catalyst to make the decision to flip to rock/metal as Pure Rock 105.5 FM.” A review of the concert is reproduced below to give some idea of the show - Heavy Rock Happenings By Mark Hanser Being both a headbanger and a history major, I must confess that any metal act that concern themselves with my two pet historical periods – Ancient Egypt and Medieval Europe – are bound to receive my rapt attention, particularly if they’re any good. In Iron Maiden’s case, the band’s fantastic, even without their chronological fantasies. Mystical and magical, cerebral and sonic, Maiden’s rivalled only by Judas priest as metal’s greatest live act – something they proved a thousandfold at Long Beach’s Arena for four ear-splitting nights, starting Thursday the fourteenth. Iron Maiden, it must be mentioned, don’t just put on a show – they stage a spectacular. And, good God, what a spectacular it was! Imagine, if you will, a stage lifted from the valleys of Luxor; with pylons like pyramids and funeral pyres, or lighting scaffolds covered with scarabs and runes, further arranged like a dragonfly’s wings. Imagine, too, music so riff-laden and magnetic that each song erupts into an eargasm – and with lyrics both clever and literary, no less. Maiden, you see, dabble in mythology, not misogyny; so instead of hearing singer Bruce Dickinson scream Kiss retreads, the Arena’s ears heard such stuff as “The Flight Of Icarus” (you recall, I trust, the tale of Icarus and Daedalus from your high-school primers) and “Rime of The Ancient Mariner” – bassist Steve Harris’ masterful reworking of the Coleridge classic, and the piece de resistance of Powerslave (Capitol), their fifth and finest studio recording. Entertaining, melodic and enervating, Maiden’s music is like manna from Heaven in an age of Sammy Hagars. Opening with “Aces High” – which segued into their anti-nuclear anthem, “Two Minutes to Midnight” – the Maidens set the stage afire with instrumental fury. The twinlead guitars of Dave Murray and Adrian Smith became, and remained so throughout the show, textbook examples of metallic transcendence; only Priest’s Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing can match them in imagination, and not always as artfully. Rhythmically, bassist Harris and drums-basher Nicko McBrain are no less remarkable building aural tensions instead of aimless boogies. And singer Dickinson, what with his air-raid siren screams and cerebrally witty asides to the audience, is something else again. Surely Ronnie Dio never had a more attentive pupil. Nor was Dickinson any slouch as a showman, either. During the song “Powerslave,” he donned a fearsome, Horus-like falcon mask, and pranced before a suddenly-blazing pyre. It wasn’t Cleopatra, perhaps (nor was Elizabeth Taylor in the front row this time for that matter), but it made for some wonderful rock theatre all the same. If the singer was upstaged by anybody, it was by Eddie the Ghoul, then band’s nine foot (and mummified, this time) mascot, who dutifully appeared and danced before the knowing masses. As a whole, the band played loud and (not unpleasantly) long, with a (pleasant) minimum of soloing. They encored firstly with their medieval battle-merch, “Run To The Hills,” and secondly with “Running Free,” a relic from the now-ancient Killers. Then Dickinson, as is his wont, bade the audience a safe journey home. Such was the show, but such a show! Western Massachusetts' purveyors of all things heavy, THE ACACIA STRAIN, have confirmed the addition of Jonathan Dennison (Unholy, Another Victim, Path of Resistance, Santa Sangre). After keeping busy by writing heavy guitar lines intertwined with melodic riffs, guitarist Matt Nadolski called upon lead guitarist and longtime friend, John McCleary, to kick it into high gear. Matt Zane to be Suspended While Playing Guitar at Pornstar Utopia and Ink Houston Tattoo Convention

Hollywood, CA - Society 1 frontman, Matt Zane, will be suspended while playing guitar at the upcoming Pornstar Utopia and Ink Tattoo Convention in Houston Texas. The event will take place on November 10th. Zane will be playing guitar with Core (www.wearecore.com). He will be pierced in front of the crowd, stretched then lifted in to the air while playing guitar. He will then swing around and pick up Pleasure Productions contract girl Tera Wray. The band will be playing the whole time this is going on. "After I was on the Dave Navarro show," stated Zane, "the offers to suspend for a live audience have been a little overwhelming. As much as I like to entertain, one of my main concerns with anything I do is to keep the performance fresh. I didn't want to attempt 100 suspensions and have them all be the same. So it just so happened that I was asked to perform in Houston and that is where the other chapter of CORE is located. They also have a musical director and musicians that play during their shows. So I thought it would be a great opportunity to bring my suspensions to the next level by playing guitar simultaneously while suspending and performing with the CORE musicians. It's something that we hope to incorporate into Society 1 shows as well."

Matt Zane has always been known for his singing in Society 1, but not for his guitar playing. "I have always played guitar and written 90% of everything in my band Society 1 but I was never outspoken about my guitar playing until recently. I never wanted the former guitar player to feel like I was trying to receive all the attention and recognition. It was hard enough to get him noticed because of my adult video involvement and outlandish stage show."
