Skinny Puppy - Anaheim HOB - 6-24-07 First off, the two bands opening this
show were throwaways, bottom line. I do not remember their names nor do
I want to as they were particularly not good. This is my
first opportunity to see the Skinny Puppy live experience and I must say that
as a performance piece I felt as if I was at a art gallery opening.
It to me was not so much a concert but a performing arts piece. The
music set the tone for the illusions that were put forth from the mind of
Ogre himself. The nearly 2 hour set involved movements from
his entire career as well as from his new illustrious SPV released piece of
art Mythmaker. As the show unfolded it was apparent that his need
to express his feelings in the most outrageous manner was needed and it seems
as religion is his stickpin so to speak. This is where he is a true
artist that uses music to get his meaning across as in using visuals with
words unlike most bands or artists these days. Skinny Puppy are
one of the longest running true industrial acts and this show and their latest
record Mythmaker are the reasons why this is true.
