Jon Oliva’s Pain
- Maniacal Renderings - Locomotive Jon Oliva has always been a favorite singer of mine and Savatage rarely did wrong so it pains me to some extent to write this. The first Pain CD was a quality release whereas this is not at all. The problem here is that there is nothing completely inspirational here, nothing to move me. There are passages here and there that bring back the fire of old but they are passages that soon pass back to the doldrums. If the lack of creativity is not enough it seems as if he is falling back on his catalog and Through The Eyes Of The King puts that into perspective. When you listen to this song you find yourself singing Hall Of The Mountain King, have we run out of ideas for original material? This is the same guy that created Power of the Night and Gutter Ballet, I expect better than this. Jeffrey Easton |
