Erik Norlander – Hommage Symphonique – Think Tank Erik is a special performer, a master keyboardist and a prolific songwriter. His skills as a master musician are second to none and each release is a celebration. That leads me to his new opus Hommage Symphonique, a covers recording that sounds like a disc of Norlander originals. I normally do not care for cover discs but I took exception to this due to the artists that Erik decided to cover. The tracks represent the best of what 70’s prog music had to offer and Erik has indeed made the songs his own. As you get into the depths of this record you can feel where he came from, what actually inspired his career. From the longwinded exploits of Yes to the pop in some places but well written tunes that drove ELO, you have the map of where Erik came from and where he is going. You really feel that he put himself in the place of the original artist to make the song come out more like the original rather than some half-baked cover song. Fans of Norlander need to take heed to this phenomenal release and 70’s prog fans should discover this incredible artist to hear your fav artist in a new light. 9/10 Jeffrey Easton |
