Canvas Solaris - Cortical
Tectonics - Sensory Instrumental albums are a difficult
pill to swallow for some and when you throw in multiple progressions in the
same song it becomes all the more difficult. That is why I like Canvas
Solaris, they take instrumentation and go so far with it. This, their
fourth overall release, finds them going even further than Penumbra Diffuse
did. Their time changes are so erratic and off balance that the run of
the mill music fan would have trouble keeping up but prog fans are special.
I like the Zappa (Listen to Jazz From Hell) like feel of the six tracks here
as it is leaps and bounds over traditional music that I find so boring
sometimes. These guys are masters with their instruments, not conforming
to any style or rules. Now I did say prog metal but there is so much
more here than that with Acid Jazz influences amongst others. For the
adventurist music lover, you will not find a better CD. CD review by Jeffrey Easton
