Killswitch Engage - As Daylight
Dies (Special Edition) - Roadrunner The tradition in music of late is
releasing “special edition” versions of already released albums.
I do not know where the idea came from to do this but it does have its
advantages although some have said it’s a rip off to fans. In this
case with Killswitch Engage they have a valid reason to pursue a re-release.
They have had a few major tours since ADLD along with a stint on Warped so the
people who came on board during those outings that want the disc will have
more of a reason to go out and pick the disc up. The re-release has the
basic 11 thumping tracks that slammed through the first issue along with
4 new tracks to bash your head to as well as 3 videos. The new tracks
are continuation of the original idea along with a surprising cover of Dio’s
Holy Diver. Considering their nature and Dio’s nature I did not know
what to expect with them covering classic metal but I was blown away with what
they have concocted here. Also the two videos filmed for the original
release, The Curse and The Arms Of Sorrow, are here with the making of for
each one. The video they lensed for Holy Diver is here as well and the
underlying sense of humor that this band has is very present in the
lighthearted stab at the ideas that made Dio famous. Now is this
re-release worth the cash that you have already spent on the record?
That is for you to decide but to me I feel it is worth every penny. CD review by Jeffrey Easton
