Out Of The Dark - Nuclear Blast All Stars - Nuclear Blast Nuclear Blast is celebrating 20 years in business and you the metal public get the gift, an excellent comp of some of Nuclear’s brightest stars. The basis of this project is Peter Wichers, former guitar player/song writer with Soilwork. The 10 excellent tracks that make up this disc were constructed by this amazing talent so let it be known. To show off the diversity of the label, a different vocalist from different genres and bands was chosen for each song. Opening the disc and possibly the best track here is Dysfunctional Hours, sung by In Flames very own Anders Friden. This has the technical virtuosity that is always present in the song writing of In Flames, as if it was In Flames. Other standouts are most present in Devotion featuring Jari from Wintersun, the breakout black metal act who has had the most promise in the last few years. Amazing track, Jari has got the pipes. The other surprise here was seeing John Bush singing in front of Peter. I have been a fan of his for years and to hear him singing something different is always interesting. Peter from Hypocrisy gives is evil presence to Schizo, a menacingly dark track that fit’s the way he sings. The return of Death Angel was a triumph for the old school thrash scene and Mark gave his 100% on the fast paced My Name Is Fate, undying. Peter Wichers developed a vast array of sounds to make this a diverse trip for metal and metal fans to find something different and it works. www.nuclearblastusa.com CD review by Jeffrey Easton
