Opeth
- The Roundhouse Tapes - Peaceville Opeth
are pure splendor, nothing less. Having
caught several performances by this legendary band I can attest to the beauty
and strength of this dark band. I will also stand by the comment that there is
not a better live band, period. Opeth
were made for the road, their songs translating so well to the live setting.
When Opeth perform, they suck you in and take you to a different place.
They are indeed a heavy act but at the same time they warrant you
standing there, to watch them and take in everything. This live set, recorded last year at the Camden Roadhouse in London, was during the touring cycle
for the incredible Ghost Reveries Tour, possibly one of their best studio
efforts to date and a great diving board for a tour.
This particular live set includes some spectacular materiel including
Blackwater Park, Under The Weeping Moon as well as Night And The Silent Water
and Windowpane. All delivered
effortlessly while weaving beautiful and deadly rhythms lead by vocalist and
guitar player Mikael Åkerfeldt, maybe one of the most diverse vocalists in
metal. His ability to switch gears
between brutality and stunningly clean vocals is nothing short of amazing and it
adds so many layers to their already tremendous music.
The rest of the band are the cream of the crop, some the best talent
Europe has to offer. If you have their live DVD and were craving more live
Opeth, then you must own this masterpiece, it will be a classic. www.opeth.com CD
