Atrocity
- Werk 80 II - Napalm Atrocity,
the long running German band have unleashed yet another masterful covers disc
under the title of Werk 80 II. Following
in the footsteps of the disco covers of the first one, they have taken on 80’s
new wave hits from notable bands like Depeche Mode, A-Ha, Frankie Goes To
Hollywood and Alphaville. Most new
wave, the better new wave, came out of the Euro scene anyway so to have a German
metal band to cover this stuff seems to be a fit.
The covers are not completely true to the originals but would you really
want a metal band to use strictly synths?
Alexander Krull has a great voice and whether it fit’s the original
song or not does not matter as he commands the track to be his own.
I am a little out on why he chose an A-Ha song as I never really thought
they fit in that spectrum even though they were huge for awhile but he pulls off
a great job. Their music really
takes you in nad you honestly forget that it is a an 80’s comp of songs, a
mark of true virtuosity. CD
