Element – Aeons Past – Brutal Bands

When the Brutal Bands label (home to DEVOURMENT) heard the impressive ELEMENT demo, they quickly signed the guys up. ELEMENT are guitarists Chris Lozano and Mason Gregory (OBELISK) and the resulting CD is nothing less than spectacular with ultra-catchy riffs and amazing harmonies from twin guitars, blasting double bass (courtesy of KC Howard on the recording) and mind-boggling cosmic song arrangements. This is skillfully crafted, talented death metal presented without attitude or affectation. The interplanetary atmosphere depicted in the desolate cover art is well represented by tracks like the epic instrumental “Dying Suns Descend,” where the ambience of space and time poke through here and there. At press time, the group was looking for a full time drummer and bassist to join the line-up, which also includes vocalist Armando Pepells.
