The Used – MEDZ – Big Noise

By Jeffrey Easton

For over 2 decades, The Used have devastated stages around the world, sold hundreds of thousands of records and have never let up for a moment.  So, what do they give their fans after the well-received Toxic Positivity?  They give you a disc of the so-called leftovers that deserved a release of their own.  This isn’t just a disc of B Sides or what was left, this is a powerful, emotive disc that shows Bert with his heart and soul wide open.   Opening with Medz, a dark look at trying to hard and wanting to give up against an unrelenting aural assault.   People Are Vomit, enough said, another bleak peak at the true nature of the people around you, I agree.  Fuck You is another stand out that says it all in the title.  Read the lyrics, do you have a family member, an ex, this is for them and again, Bert is at his peak blasting these lyrics.  I know a few people I can send this to, sometimes a track can steal home easily.  Before I Leave should be in the set every night, closing out the show.   A brilliant plea for attention but how The Used would say it.  I found this on repeat to often as it speaks to me.   This album is so good, this should have been a pure The Used studio album in its own right.  Tell Me is another that hits close to home, maybe I have been in more situations than I should have been.  Tell Me could it ever get better than this, great lyric and it hits the heart hard.  It closes out with Pain Is My Therapy, if you have been through some dark times, this will see you through.  If you have had pain, work through it and survive.   This is one of the hardest hitting releases from The Used, its dark, the music is as catchy as always because that’s what you expect from The Used and you will find yourself singing to this before you realize.
